NOSM University Achievement Celebration Honours Excellence in Health Education and Research

NOSM University is proud to announce the accomplishments of faculty, preceptors, learners, alumni, and staff at the second-annual NOSM University Achievement Celebration, held on Friday, May 3, 2024.  The awards ceremony, part of the annual Northern Constellations and Connections faculty development conference, drew health-care professionals from across Northern Ontario. NOSM University researcher and partners develop groundbreaking heart attack classification 

A new clinical classification is a gamechanger in the way that medical providers assess heart attacks. Released by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS), the classification is based on research by Dr. Andreas Kumar, Associate Professor at NOSM University and Cardiologist at Health Sciences North, along with his colleague Dr. Rohan Dharmakumar at Indiana University School of Medicine. Researchers at the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity receive $2.43M SSHRC grant to address local health priorities

A new project, led by Dr. Erin Cameron, Academic Director at the Dr. Gilles Arcand Centre for Health Equity at NOSM University, has received a $2.43-million Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Partnership Grant to address local health priorities. Dr. Cameron and her team will foster relationships between communities and academics. The project will study how academic institutions can direct their education, research, and service activities to address community needs, both locally and globally.
