2008 Partnership Opportunities in Research Gathering
November 4-6, 2008
The importance of Indigenous health research was recognized at the earliest stages of designing the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and the first Indigenous Research Gathering was held November 4-6, 2008 in Thunder Bay. The Partnership Opportunities in Research Gathering was a unique forum for discussion of Indigenous health research and considered the topics of historical research practices in Indigenous communities, comparison of world views of research and the role of research partnerships. The Research Gathering brought together over 100 participants including community members, researchers, research organizations, administrators and NOSM faculty and staff. The Report provided from the Partnership Opportunities in Research Gathering provides a summary of the three-day meeting and the importance of continuing this dialogue to ensure research leads to improving the health and prosperity of all members of Northern Ontario.
