Welcome to our Housing Safety Resource page. At NOSM University, we are committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for all learners. Below, you will find important resources and guidelines to help ensure your safety and well-being during your stay at NOSM U housing.

 

Learner Mistreatment

NOSM University is committed to offering work and learning environment that is free from harassment and discrimination. While residing in NOSM University’s Housing, Learner mistreatment of any kind should be reported immediately through NOSM University’s Learner Mistreatment Pathways (https://culture.nosm.ca/mistreatment/) or contact NOSM U Housing directly at housing@nosm.ca.

Learners should also refer to NOSM University’s Human Rights, Anti-Discrimination and Harassment Policy for any additional information and resources.

 

Accommodations

Learners needing unique housing requirements based on disability, compassionate, wellness, or family reasons should immediately connect with their respective Programs and Learner Support Services or Resident Wellness Program (i.e., Accessibility Advisor) to request and, if applicable, establish an accommodation plan that will help support the Learner’s successful progression through their clinical placements.

Fire Safety

NOSM University will comply with all legislative requirements including those that pertain to fire safety. Fire safety includes but is not limited to the emergency preparedness plan provided by the landlord, smoke/fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and carbon monoxide detectors. If a Learner has concerns regarding fire safety or they become aware that fire safety equipment is not working properly, they must contact the CRU immediately.

 

Help During Your Stay in NOSM U Housing

Landlords and/or Property Management Team:

In all of our Housing units, NOSM University employs a Full Turn-Key model, whereby the landlord or property management team is responsible for “on-the-ground level” support for all Learners, which includes key/unit access, amenities, refurbishment, and maintenance services management. If there are any major concern with the status of the unit, it is important to contact the landlord or property manager to fix any issues (e.g., unclean bedroom upon arrival, missing keys, broken furniture, etc.). Their contacts are designated on your Housing Unit Information Document (provided to your by NOSM U Housing).

Housing Emergency Phone:

If the major housing concerns during your stay where Learners require immediate attention by NOSM U, please connect with the Community Relations Unit through housing@nosm.ca. This email is monitored daily. In the event, that there is a housing emergency during non-working hours or weekend, please contact the NOSM U Housing Emergency Phone Line. The contact information is provided to all Learners via their Housing Unit Information Document (provided to your by NOSM U Housing).
