A Message from the Program Director, Dr. Katie Anderson
Welcome to the NOSM University Psychiatry Program! We are excited to invite you to discover the unique and enriching experiences our program offers. Our mission is to train future psychiatrists who are leaders, equipped to serve small urban, rural and remote regions, and address the complex care needs of vulnerable populations. At NOSM U, we seek residents who are motivated, innovative, self-directed, and passionate about making a difference in underserved settings. Here, you will thrive in our northern environments, experiencing the charm and opportunities our communities offer while benefiting from a 1:1 mentorship model of clinical supervision with engaged faculty, many of whom are graduates of our program. This personalized approach ensures you receive the support and guidance needed to excel. Our comprehensive training includes accredited core rotations in General Psychiatry and Subspecialties such as Child & Adolescent, Geriatrics, Forensics, and Addictions across four vibrant northern training sites. These diverse experiences will provide you with the skills and competencies necessary to practice in northern and rural settings or to pursue fellowship opportunities. Our graduates are prepared to work in a variety of settings, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, community, and outreach services, providing essential care to underserved individuals and their families. At the core of our program is NOSM U’s commitment to social accountability. We are dedicated to addressing the unique challenges and needs of our communities. We look forward to meeting and working with you as you embark on this rewarding journey in Psychiatry.
