Overview

This position’s primary purpose is to provide oversight and direction for the Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum at the Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics (CMT) I and II Committees and at the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Curriculum Committee with view of all four years.

Reporting

The UME Curriculum Lead, Obstetrics and Gynecology, reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education. Collegial and collaborative supervision, leadership and guidance, including delegation of tasks and contribution to performance review, will be by the Assistant Dean, Clinical Education, and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section Chair.

Responsabilités

The UME Curriculum Lead, Obstetrics and Gynecology, works directly with the Chairs of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics I and II and the Introduction to Clinical Medicine, the Phase 3 Co-Directors, the Phase 2 Director, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section Chair and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship Leads on the following:

  1. Provide overall direction on Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum content and delivery throughout the MD program at the UME Curriculum Committee to ensure integration across the four years.
  2. Work closely with the Obstetrics and Gynecology Section chair to help bridge issues across the Obstetrics and Gynecology continuum of medical education at NOSM University (NOSM U). This includes participation in Obstetrics and Gynecology Section meetings and communications providing updates and opportunities to gather input from members on UME Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum content and delivery to support all functions of this role.
  3. Represent NOSM U UME Obstetrics and Gynecology at relevant local and national tables
  4. As required by the CMT Chair, participate in overseeing Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum content and academics in the clerkship years. This may include participation in developing leveled educational activities/sessions to help deliver the Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum.
  5. As required by the CMT Chair, provide input and participate in review of the Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship exam question database for ongoing quality improvement. This may include review of exam statistics and exam comments and submission of Obstetrics and Gynecology exam questions for clerkship progressive testing.
  6. In collaboration with the CMT Chair, Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship Leads and CMT I committee members review Obstetrics and Gynecology required clinical learning experiences, clerkship objectives, syllabus and course descriptions annually.
  7. In collaboration with the CMT Chair and Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship Leads, review and update the Phase 3 Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship academic session objectives annually.
  8. Consult with the CMT Chair and CMT I committee members on Phase 2 Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum (for example CARs, DTS, Aquifer cases) as required.
  9. Participate in review of reassessment and remediation plans for students having difficulty in Obstetrics and Gynecology CMT curriculum as required by the CMT Chair, relevant Phase Director(s), and other relevant faculty.
  10. Participate in the annual review of student assessment forms relevant to the CMT course.
  11. Provide a curriculum renewal (gaps/redundancies) report, using the UME Program Curriculum Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Process to the UME Curriculum Committee as per the CMT Course Chair or Curriculum Committee Co-Chairs.

It is anticipated that the majority of duties can be carried out asynchronously and as such communication with CMT Chair will mostly be completed by email or phone.

Attend Committee meetings for:

CMT II committee, UME Curriculum Committee, Section meetings and relevant local or national Obstetrics and Gynecology Undergraduate groups and any committees delegated by CMT Chair.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • Doctor of Medicine degree
  • Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

  • Must have (or be eligible for) a faculty appointment with NOSM U
  • Preference will be given to candidates residing in Northern Ontario

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

  • Three-quarters (0.75) of a day per week
