Reporting
The Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PHPM) Academic Inquiry Lead reports to the PHPM Program Director at NOSM University.
Responsabilités
Summary of Functions
Within the NOSM U PHPM Program, the Academic Inquiry Lead is responsible for:
- Fostering a culture of evidence-informed decision-making,
- Supporting inquiry-based learning methods, and
- Developing and delivering the applied public health research curriculum in the NOSM U PHPM Program.
Key Responsibilities
- Support residents in the development of evidence-informed decision-making competencies
- Provide guidance and support to residents regarding their scholarly projects (which may include but are not limited to research projects, program plans, program evaluations, environmental scans, and policy analyses)
- Assess resident scholarly projects and presentations, providing feedback to residents and the Competence Committee
- Assess entrustable professional activities related to applied public health research
- In collaboration with the associate program director or equivalent, plan the annual PHPM Research Day
- At the direction of the program director or associate program director, develop, deliver, and facilitate teaching sessions, including didactic sessions, journal clubs, and case-based learning sessions
- Support continuous quality improvement in the PHPM Program, including internal program evaluation
- Attend meetings as scheduled, which may include the Residency Program Committee meetings
- Regularly review and ensure compliance with PHPM-specific documents from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in relation to applied public health research and evidence-informed decision-making competencies
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
Éducation
- A physician licensed in Ontario, with certification from the RCPSC in PHPM, OR, a graduate degree relevant to applied public health research (e.g., Masters or PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, program evaluation, health policy analysis, or similar)
- A current faculty appointment with NOSM University (or eligibility for same)
Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités
- Recent teaching experience is required; experience with inquiry-based methods of teaching such as case-based learning is an asset
- Significant experience in applied public health research, with a relevant academic or grey literature publication record
- Demonstrated interest in northern, rural, or remote public health is preferred but not required
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario
Langue
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- One-half (0.5) day per week; must have availability most Friday mornings
