Reporting

The Site Director in the Sault Ste. Marie Integrated Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine (iFM/EM) stream for the NOSM University (NOSM U) Family Medicine residency program reports to the Program Director, Family Medicine, or designate.

Responsabilités

Summary of Functions

In collaboration with Family Medicine Program Director and the PGY3 FM/EM Program Director, the SSM iFM/EM Site Director is responsible to achieve the following elements:

  • Provide direction for aspects of residency training including the selection, monitoring, and assessment of its learners, the planning, development, and promotion of the residency stream at the applicable site.
  • Work in collaboration with the Site Administrative Coordinator (SAC) or other administrative personnel to ensure a practical orientation and a welcoming positive environment for learners.
  • Ensure that learners are well prepared for practice in northern, rural, and remote communities.
  • Participate in overall program assessment and evaluation such as annual quality improvement (e.g. feedback to Site Director, recommendations for improvements to the rural stream etc.).
  • Assisting with learner wellness by organizing social events locally for residents.

 Specific Responsibilities

With the assistance of the Program Directors (both Family Medicine Program Director and the PGY3 FM/EM Program Director, and other program leadership), the SSM iFM/EM Site Director is responsible for the following:

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Selection of residents to the stream/program
  • Acts as a dossier reviewer and/or attend residency interview days
  • Represents and/or attends as the stream delegate to:
    • FM Residency Program Committee (RPC), including the annual face-to-face RPC meeting
    • FM-EM Residency Program Committee and related CC meetings
    • Resident Assessment and Progression Committee (RAPC)
  • May represent the site at the following subcommittee meetings:
    • FM-EM Recruitment and Selection Committee
    • Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement Committee (PEQIC)
    • Clinical Curriculum and Academic Committee (CCAC)
    • Site Education Committee (if applicable)
    • Any other program committees as required
  • Assists with resident selection processes, including promotion of the program at information sessions, act as dossier reviewer, and attend residency interview day(s)
  • Assists with timely review of and management of assessments of learners and rotations
  • Attends FM orientation events and Unified Rounds in Sault Ste. Marie

Academic Responsibilities:

Assists with the following:

  • Oversees the clinical experiences of iFM/EM residents to ensure all objectives and competencies can be achieved
  • Assists with the ongoing review and development of the residency program including educational objectives, academic curriculum, and clinical curriculum consistent with the requirements of the CFPC and NOSM U
  • Schedules resident rotations, in collaboration with the SACs and the LEG administrator
  • Ensures appropriate assessment of residents in line with the program requirements including face-to-face feedback, direct observation of clinical skills, timely completion of In-Training assessment Reports (ITARs) by faculty and the Periodic Review process
  • Ensures that each resident has an identified Competency Coach/Faculty Advisor
  • Assists with facilitation and the organization of third year learners and their faculty supervisors for PanNorthern Grand Rounds
  • Identify and secure resources required for the delivery of the curriculum
  • Maintain regular communication with clinical teachers and Competency Coaches
  • Ensure the provision of safe learning/teaching, research and clinical environments for learners, staff and faculty

Qualifications

Éducation

  • Doctor of Medicine degree
  • Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario
  • Certification in the Family Medicine (CCFP) and Emergency Medicine designation CCFP(EM)

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

  • Faculty appointment with NOSM U
  • Hospital privileges at Sault Area Hospital and performs clinical duties in the department(s) respective to emergency medicine
  • Combination practice in FM and EM would be considered an asset
  • Several years of involvement in postgraduate medical education is an asset
  • Experience in the administration of postgraduate residency programs an asset

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

  • Three (3.0) days per month for first and second year for start-up development/curriculum work
  • Four and one-half (4.5) days per month for year three and ongoing
