Reporting
The Co-Academic Coordinator reports academically to the Program Director, Psychiatry, for the medical education activities and to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education and Health Sciences (PGME & HS), for financial matters and non-academic policy and strategy.
Responsabilités
Summary of Functions
In conjunction with the Program Director, the Co-Academic Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, and quality of all academic sessions for the Psychiatry program.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing the format, content and organizing presenters for the academic half days
- Coordinating and overseeing the scheduling for all academic sessions for Psychiatry residents as part of the regular educational series
- Collaborating with community clinicians to develop academic sessions
- Participate in Accreditation activities, including being a core member of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) subcommittee.
- Assuring the quality, responsiveness and relevancy of the Psychiatry program academic sessions regarding residents’ needs
- Monitoring the content and evaluations of the academic sessions
- Liaising with Residency Program Committee (RPC) to discuss academic session content
- Participating as a member of RPC to address academic issues
- Acting as Chair of Academic Committee/
- Promoting and developing academic activities throughout all NOSM University (NOSM U) teaching sites in collaboration with the Faculty Affairs and Continuing Education and Professional Development (FA and CEPD) portfolios
- Liaising with the Francophone Affairs Unit and the Indigenous Affairs Unit to facilitate the availability of Francophone and Indigenous educational presentations at the academic sessions
- Annually reviewing the program content with the RPC to ensure academic accountability and that accreditation standards of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) are met
Qualifications
Éducation
- A physician licensed in Ontario, practicing in Northern Ontario with certification from the RCPSC (or equivalent as determined by the Associate Dean, PGME & HS)
- A current faculty appointment (or eligibility for same) with NOSM U
Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités
- Minimum of three (3) years recent regional practice experience
- Minimum of three (3) years recent experience as a psychiatry preceptor
- Substantial knowledge of, and exposure to, the issues faced by regional and rural medical education
- Significant experience with Accreditation process and/or continuous quality improvement in postgraduate medical education
- Significant experience in the health care and academic sectors
- Self-motivated and directed
- Superior interpersonal, communication, management and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Royal College standards for academics and CBD
- Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario
Langue
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- One and one-half (1.5) days per month
