WSIB Champion – Workplace Health Champions Program Postuler en ligne!

The purpose of the WSIB Champion position is to expand the medical school curricula in occupational health, including student research, in occupational health at the undergraduate, post graduate and continuing education levels. The WSIB Champion delivers the Occupational Health Champion Program, which is a provincial initiative to encourage Ontario medical schools to expand the awareness and knowledge of occupational health issues.

Reporting

The WSIB Champion reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education.

Responsabilités

• To increase physician knowledge and skills in dealing with workplace health issues, including the diagnosis of work-related injury and illness and its effective management including return-to-work
• To emphasize the critical role of primary care providers in achieving WSIB’s strategic objectives to make Ontario a safer place to work and optimize return-to-work and recovery outcomes following injury or illness
• To increase physicians’ and other health care providers’ knowledge of occupational medicine in support of the occupational health and safety system
• Advocate for inclusion of occupational medicine related content in the medical school curriculum, develop and deliver education sessions and work with other Champions to review and enhance the program
• To act as ambassadors of our mission and may be called upon to communicate about their work with stakeholders
• To deliver curriculum in WHMIS training, as well as Health and Safety in Medical Practice and the legislative framework around the practice of medicine
• Use the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) objectives on occupational health to inform some of the curricular learning objectives
• Collaborate with the Family Medicine Program Lead in Postgraduate Education (PGE) to teach the foundation course in occupational medicine to residents
• Collaborate with the Research and Library Portfolios to enhance the resource materials of occupational health medicine
• Attend Theme Committee meetings and UME Curriculum Committee meetings
• Submit of a final report to WSIB and the Associate Dean, UME, that includes information on program delivery
• • List of teaching activities done at the school including number of participating students in each activity
  • Evaluation assessments of the activities where possible
  • Sample of program materials where possible
• Participate in the WSIB Workplace Health Champions Program virtual meetings and annual in-person meeting
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

Éducation

• Doctor of Medicine degree
• Possession of a current license to practice medicine in the Province of Ontario
• Must have (or be eligible for) a clinical faculty appointment with NOSM University
• Preference will be given to faculty residing in Northern Ontario

Langue

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
• French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

• As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

• One (1.0) day per week
