Who is eligible? Post-secondary students who are currently enrolled in a recognized college or university with Canadian accreditation.

Reporting to the Director, Health Sciences Library and Data Stewardship, under the guidance of the Team Leader, the Student Assistant is responsible for working at the Health Sciences Library’s Information Desk during evening and weekend hours.

Responsabilités

Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Open and close the library as applicable.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Circulate library materials (reserves, equipment, interlibrary loans).
  • Prepare equipment for loan.
  • Maintain materials on library shelves.
  • Provide general assistance to users at our Information Desk, on the phone, and via our online chat service.
  • Process and shelve new library materials.
  • Replace faded spine labels.
  • Restock copier/printer paper and office supplies.
  • Inventory library materials.
  • Tidy public and shared staff spaces.
  • Input statistics.
  • Process payments for printing services.
  • Ensure a safe and quiet study environment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Éducation

  • Completion of secondary school and enrollment in post-secondary institution

Connaissances, Compétences et Capacités

  • Customer service experience.
  • Point of Sale (POS) experience is an asset.
  • Word processing and internet searching skills.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Positive attitude and effective communicator.
  • Commitment to work assigned shifts (*shifts are scheduled around classes).

Langue

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
