NOSM University Family Medicine Residency Training

The NOSM University Family Medicine program participates in the R-1 Main Residency Match through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). Applications to the program can be found by visiting the CaRMS website.

Final year medical school students interested in Family Medicine residency training in Northern Ontario, are encouraged to apply to all of our streams (North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Remote First Nations and Rural streams) through CaRMS.

NOSM University Royal College Specialty Medicine Residency Training

NOSM University Royal College Specialty programs also participate in the R-1 Main Residency Match through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). Applications to programs can be found by visiting the CaRMS website.

Final-year medical school students interested in Royal College residency training in Northern Ontario, are encouraged to apply to all of our programs through CaRMS.

NOSM University Family Medicine PGY3 Enhanced Skills Programs

Interested candidates can apply to NOSM University’s PGY3 Family Medicine Enhanced Skills Programs during their second year of family medicine training, and application to the program must be submitted through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Re-Entry Program- Ministry of Health and Long-term Care

Physicians currently practicing in Canada who are seeking to re-enter residency training can apply to the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) re-entry program. This program has a return of service requirement. For more information on annual deadlines, eligibility requirements and the application process, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Health site.

At NOSM University, re-entry applications are reviewed alongside repatriation and provincial and national transfer requests after the second iteration of the CaRMS cycle each year. Support for re-entry applications is based on funding availability and program-specific clinical capacity. Repatriation Program- Ontario Ministry of Health

The MOHLTC funds postgraduate medical training positions for physicians who have completed or partially completed their postgraduate residency training outside of Canada and who require additional training to meet the national certification requirements. Upon successful completion these physicians will be required to fulfill return of service obligations in an eligible community.  For more information on eligibility requirements and the application process, please visit the Ontario Ministry of Health site. Deadline for applications to NOSM University programs is January 31.
