How to Apply/FAQs

The NOSM University Psychiatry Program participates in the R-1 Main Residency Match through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). Application to the program can be found by visiting the CaRMS website at www.carms.ca.

The program is offered in four separate streams: North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay. Applicants are encouraged to apply to all four streams.

Candidates for the Psychiatry Residency Program at NOSM University are selected on the basis of:

• demonstrated interest in Psychiatry;
• academic record;
• strength of references;
• strong interpersonal skills;
• self-directed learning and a desire to train in a variety of community settings with health care teams.

An interest in future Northern urban, rural or remote practice will be a key consideration.
