Message from our Program Director
Since its inception, NOSM University’s Family Medicine Residency Program has been providing learners with unique experiences that prepares them for medical practice anywhere in Canada, including the confidence and expertise to practice in some of the more rural and remote regions of northern Ontario.
Our campus is the largest in Ontario, with teaching sites distributed throughout northern Ontario. Each have their unique characteristics, and provide residents with high quality, full-scope, hands-on training. Supported by evidence-based clinician teachers with diverse backgrounds and interests, many of whom are graduates of the residency program itself, learners develop the skills to care for patients longitudinally in a variety of settings. Dedicated opportunities in family medicine are at the core of the curriculum. Some training sites have evolved exclusively to a longitudinal training model in family medicine, while others use a block-based approach, with a minimum of eight months out of the two years spent in their home family medicine clinic.
The people of our communities are welcoming and eager to see residents taking an interest in the North and participating in the provision of health care. Family medicine residents quickly feel at home, and have opportunities to explore all that our region has to offer, from outdoor recreational activities that take advantage of our four seasons to picturesque scenery. There truly is something for everyone!
The opportunities available to Family Medicine residents at NOSM University are like no other. Come and see for yourself! We look forward to welcoming you.
