Academic Excellence

Winner – Erin Woodbeck – Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre

Erin upholds a high standard of dietetics education and practice that has benefited countless
dietetic and medical learners for over 20 years. Erin is described by her learners as an ‘excellent
preceptor’. She has precepted multiple dietetic learners annually, participated in clinical
research, and teaches medical students and residents on surgical nutrition. Her commitment to
evidence-based practice, knowledge sharing, and quality nutritional care has not only raised the
value of the registered dietitian within the health care team but ensured our future RDs and
MDs provide effective dietetics care.

Commitment to Clinical Education

Winner – Trina Pearson – St. Joseph’s Care Group

For 16 years Trina has been a valued clinical preceptor for NODIP. Annually she will precept
multiple learners while coordinating other NODIP placements at St. Joseph’s Care Group. Trina’s
attentiveness, kind, and thoughtful approach to precepting and mentorship, ensures our
learners have a rewarding experience. She can be counted on to take learners with a variety of
needs while encouraging a high standard of education and dietetic practice. Thank you Trina for
your commitment and dedication to dietetic practicum training.

Interprofessional Collaborator

Winner – Deha Reimer – Dryden Regional Health Centre

Deha has been a longstanding and effective collaborator for NODIP, going out of her way to
work with the NODIP staff, Dryden and regional RDs to enhance and build rewarding
placements for learners that impact dietetic practice for the north. On placement, Deha ensures
learners have opportunities to work with other disciplines to round out their understanding and
experience with Interprofessional collaboration and understanding of the dietitians scope of
care. Through this practice, Deha fosters independence and confidence in learners, allowing
them the freedom to grow and develop into unique practitioners.

Innovative Preceptor

Winner – Kim McGibbon – Thunder Bay District Health Unit

As a valued NODIP Population Health preceptor, Kim consistently goes out of her way to make
placements and practice-based projects an engaging and effective experience for our learners.
Kim places the learners at the forefront of her work, arranging a variety of learning
opportunities that embody NOSM University’s social accountability mandate. Kim incorporates
her philosophy of work-life balance into all activities. From teaching while on walks, over coffee,
and even in yoga classes, Kim creates a learning environment where students feel confident,
supported, and most importantly excited about Nutrition for Population Health.

Northern Ambassador Preceptor

Winner – Kaitlin Negus – Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre

Kaitlin has extended NODIP’s clinical placement opportunities into Sioux Lookout by making
every effort to engage learners for a rewarding experience. In addition to recently developing a
new clinical placement, Kaitlin goes out of her way to make learners feel comfortable and
engaged in the community. She connects learners with the Meno Ya Win staff for a thorough
orientation that includes cultural safety training and she arranges social activities with learners
outside of work hours.
