Dietetic Practicum Program

NOSM University’s Dietetic Practicum Program (DPP)—formerly known as the Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program—provides the training required to become a Registered Dietitian.

We recruit and train Registered Dietitians of the future—community leaders who are as comfortable taking on health issues as they are caring for individuals. Are you up for the challenge?

This unique, one-year program provides a wide range of experience in dietetics training. Learners work in a variety of health-care settings including hospitals and health centres in urban and rural communities.

During the program, you will learn with a small cohort which provides individualized learning and opportunities to work with supportive faculty who will become colleagues. Hands-on practical experiences working with award-winning preceptors and health-care teams in communities are plentiful. You will also work on a practice-based project supervised by a Registered Dietitian working in the field or at NOSM University.

Upon completion of NOSM University’s Dietetic Practicum Program, you will be prepared to work as a Registered Dietitian, providing leadership in a variety of settings including large urban hospitals, rural and remote communities, public health, and diabetes education clinics. Many alumni have gone on to work across Northern Ontario and Canada and a full 100 percent of the program graduates are working in the field within weeks of graduation.

This community-engaged program equips learners with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to improve health outcomes through food and nutrition. Choose to learn in Northern Ontario.
