Innovative app created by NOSM medical students aims to reduce opioid-related deaths

As the opioid death rate continues to rise in Northern Ontario, medical students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) have created an innovative app that improves access to Naloxone, a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose. Jordan Law, MacKenzie Ludgate and Owen Montpellier have developed the Naloxone North app, a free and confidential service that ships a Naloxone kit right to your door. Donor supports transformation of physician workforce planning in Northern Ontario

Derek Day recently donated $210,000 from his late mother’s estate—the Estate of Ruth Day—to assist in transforming physician workforce planning in Northern Ontario and support the creation of a new Rural Generalist Pathway (RGP) at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). Since NOSM’s inception in 2002, its objective has been to graduate physicians and health-care professionals to meet the health needs across the region. As the world faced the unprecedented health crisis of COVID-19, faculty at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) made pivotal changes to its fourth-year MD curriculum. Town of Smooth Rock Falls rallies together to win The NOSM Trivia Challenge

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) declares the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital Foundation and community member Trista Breton the official winners of The NOSM Trivia Challenge. On Monday, February 1, Laurentian University announced commencement of court-supervised proceedings for a formal restructuring under federal legislation. While NOSM is associated with Laurentian University through an affiliation agreement, NOSM is a stand-alone legal entity, registered as a not-for-profit corporation, and maintains independent finances, administration, and Board of Directors. NOSM receives unprecedented $1.2 million donation to invest in social accountability

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) announces a $1.2 million donation to support its social accountability mandate. This gift marks the largest by an individual donor in the School’s history.
