Much has happened since my last update, and it’s been an exciting time at NOSM University. From a pan-Northern tour to the fabulous Northern Constellations and Connections conference, including the Achievement Celebration, as well as two incredible convocations, this has been a very exciting time at NOSM University. Convocation NOSM University’s 2025 convocation ceremonies were held on May 23 in Thunder Bay and May 30 in Sudbury, my first as President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean and CEO. Amplifying Impact Through Community Engagement

As I sit down to write this, I can’t help but reflect on the wild and unpredictable weather we’ve experienced in Northern Ontario since the official start of spring. From snowstorms that seemed to come out of nowhere, to freezing rain, followed by bursts of sunshine quickly replaced by cold winds, it’s been a reminder of how quickly things can change. But, just like the weather, our progress at NOSM University is resilient, driven by the passion and determination of our community. Empowering Health Equity

As many of you may know, rural and remote medicine holds a special place in my heart. During my eight years as a family physician in Moose Factory and Kashechewan, I saw firsthand how communities along the James Bay Coast interacted with health care, and the profound human impact of economic and social barriers in some of the most isolated parts of Northern Ontario. I had the great honour of providing care to many families who made Kashechewan and Moose Factory First Nation their home.
