NOSM University Alumni Awards

Each year, you and your fellow alumni demonstrate exemplary service and commitment to health care, medical education, and research in Northern Ontario and across the country. The Alumni Awards will recognize the achievements of some of our most accomplished graduates from all NOSM University programs.

We want to hear from you!

  • Why are you nominating this alumna/alumnus?
  • How has this person excelled and what demonstrates how this nominee is exceptional?
  • How do they stand out from their peers as mentors, colleagues, and collaborators?
  • What has the nominee achieved outside of their profession through their research, advocacy, volunteerism, or personal interests?
  • Are their contributions and achievements based on individual merit or personal commitment, rather than because of their position of employment?
  • How does the person nominated make you proud to be connected to NOSM University?
  • What personal qualities does the nominee exhibit that makes them an inspiration for students and other alumni?

Nominations can be made by alumni, faculty, learners, staff and community members in two award categories—Rising Star and Distinguished Alumni. An Honorary Alumni award will be awarded to an individual who has not graduated from NOSM University, yet lives the values of the organization. The recipient will be chosen based on recommendations by the Nominations Committee.

The nomination period opens each December.

SPECIAL NOTE: Nominee’s are to be judged based on their application ONLY. Prior knowledge of a candidate, and/or personal relationships should be disclosed to the committee chair prior to evaluation.

While rubrics will be used to make individual interpretations prior to committee meetings, rubrics are not to be the single deciding factor for Award recipients. Rubrics should be filled out prior to meetings, and discussion during the meeting among committee members could override a numeric score.
