Office of the President and Vice Chancellor

As I take on the role of President at NOSM University, I remain deeply connected to my roots, starting my career as a family physician in Moose Factory. The eight years I spent there, both practicing medicine and raising my family, shaped my understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of rural and Indigenous communities. Those experiences continue to guide my commitment to health equity and community-based care, and I carry the lessons I learned with me as I work to lead NOSM U in serving the diverse needs of Northern Ontario.

Over my more than two decades at Queen’s Health Sciences, I have seen the profound impact of dedicated healthcare education and research.

As I step into my role at NOSM University, I am excited to lead an institution that shares this commitment to improving the health and well-being of Northern Ontarians. NOSM U’s mission is deeply rooted in social accountability and community-focused healthcare, providing opportunities for learners to grow both academically and personally while addressing the unique needs of rural, remote, Indigenous, and Francophone communities.

The NOSM U of today is a forward-thinking institution, built on the foundation of collaboration, innovation, and a passion for serving Northern Ontario. Our future is filled with exciting possibilities, from advancing healthcare education and policy research to strengthening our partnerships with the communities we serve. These opportunities will ensure NOSM U continues to be a leader in addressing the critical health challenges of our region.

Together, with the support of our dedicated team and communities, we will continue to make a lasting impact, improving health outcomes and shaping the future of healthcare in Northern Ontario.
