Regalia Information
Graduands Regalia
Graduands who attend their convocation ceremony are required to wear regalia. Graduates are to order their regalia as part of the graduation application process.
We ask that graduands do not alter their academic regalia as it represents their academic achievement unless they represent the Canadian Armed Forces or wish to wear their own Traditional Attire. Please see the details below:
Canadian Armed Forces Attire
- Graduands and faculty in the Canadian Armed Forces may wear their uniform in lieu of an academic gown.
- Graduands are still required to cross the stage with their academic hood draped over their arm.
Traditional Attire
- Graduates and faculty may choose to wear traditional attire in lieu of an academic gown and hood.
- NOSM University acknowledges the diversity of people, communities and nations. As such it is recognized that traditional attire may vary.
- Traditional regalia is defined as clothing, accessories, and artifacts that are often sacred and are worn or carried during carious ceremonies. The design and meaning of the regalia vary significantly depending on the individual who wears it, the culture from which it originates, and the event where it is worn.
Faculty Regalia
Faculty are invited to walk in the procession however the platform party will be limited to faculty who have been invited to hood students or those given a specific role in the ceremonies.
Faculty are invited to wear their regalia from their alma mater should they own it. Otherwise, regalia will be provided by the Registrar’s Office.
Gowns and hoods will be available for pick up at the venue on the day of the event. You will be notified as to your required arrival time depending on the requirements of your role that day.
***NOTE: Travel costs are the responsibility of each individual faculty member who wishes to travel to attend either convocation ceremony.***
