Addictions Simulation Workshop

Pilot Session taking place on Saturday, January 18, 2025  @ 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. EST

Location:  NOSM U Sudbury Campus

Join us for a highly interactive simulation workshop that aims to address both pharmacotherapy skills such as initiating and titrating anti-craving medications for Opiate Use and Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD and OUD), as well as interpersonal skills including brief motivational interviewing and reducing stigma while providing care to persons with use disorders. The simulation format will facilitate hands-on, case-based skill-building with standardized patients, and will include observation and feedback from experienced providers.

Scenarios are adaptable to multiple contexts, ranging from community clinics to hospitals; resources are tailored to local providers and expansion to interested communities/providers is done in a way that allows customizing the protocols to the resources and clinical pathways relevant to a particular clinical context. This program is ideal for prescribers looking to enhance their proficiency in AUD and OUD management.

Program Learning Objectives
Following this workshop participants will be able to:

  1. Competently prescribe withdrawal management medications for AUD and OUD
  2. Confidently prescribe anti-craving medications for AUD and OUD
  3. Interact with people who use substances without reinforcing stigma for this patient population
  4. Evaluate one’s own bias when treating a patient with substance disorder and recognize associated stereotypes that may cause personal bias
