NOSM Board Holds First Meeting of 2019

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) held a regular meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 by video- and tele-conference across Northern Ontario. Special guest Dr. Sarita Verma, Dean and CEO Designate, was introduced to the Board of Directors and shared her vision for the School as she congratulated Dr. Strasser for the incredible work NOSM has done in improving access to quality health care for all Northern Ontarians. NOSM receives funding for virtual communities of practice

The office of Faculty Affairs and Continuing Education and Professional Development (FA and CEPD) at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) has succeeded in a grant application and received more than $500,000 to develop educational materials for primary care and specialist physicians on best practices in opioid prescribing. The grant application was a collaboration between leadership and faculty in the Clinical Sciences Division. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) maintains a commitment to providing information to rural, remote, Indigenous, and Francophone youth about health careers. This year marks the fourteenth time that NOSM has hosted week-long summer camps for high-school students interested in a career in health care. According to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health issue in their lifetime. Today, in honour of Bell Let's Talk Day, the Healthy Workplace Group brought together staff from across the School to discuss mental health in the workplace over lunch. Dr. Sarita Verma appointed as Medical School’s next leader.
