NOSM’s Vaccination Policy
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) continues to take proactive steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its learners, staff, faculty and visitors who attend NOSM campus buildings in Sudbury and Thunder Bay. To help ensure a safe learning and work environment, NOSM has established a Vaccine Policy that will take effect immediately. As part of this policy, all individuals who access NOSM campus facilities (in Sudbury and Thunder Bay) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. NOSM Recognizing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
In June 2021, the federal government passed legislation to make September 30 a federal statutory day of remembrance called National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. To observe this day of reflection, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) will be closed to provide the NOSM community with an opportunity to reflect on reconciliation and participate in community events. Dr. Emily Groot named NOSM’s new Program Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) announces Dr. Emily Groot as the incoming Program Director of the Public Health and Preventive Medicine residency program effective October 18, 2021. Dr. Groot is a public health physician, born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie on the territory of Garden River and Batchewana First Nations. She completed medical school at McMaster University and completed her residency in public health and preventive medicine at Queen’s University. Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) medical student Danica Desjardins receives the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Award for 2021. NOSM announces return to campus plan
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) announced plans today for returning to campus. Starting September 7, 2021, all on-campus activities for learners will resume at the medical school buildings in Thunder Bay and Sudbury. The School will require all learners, researchers, faculty, staff, and visitors who intend to access the medical school buildings in Sudbury and Thunder Bay to have received their full vaccination or the first vaccine dose by September 7, 2021 and must be fully vaccinated by no later than October 7, 2021. $300k financial contribution from McConnell Foundation supports NOSM’s Center for Social Accountability
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) has received $300k from the McConnell Foundation for its new Center for Social Accountability (CFSA). The McConnell Foundation is a private Canadian foundation that contributes to diverse and innovative approaches to address community resilience, reconciliation, and climate change. Wasaya Airways supports NOSM students’ menstrual product drive for Fort Severn First Nation
People in rural and remote Northern Ontario communities can expect to pay double the price for the same menstrual products found in larger cities in Ontario—it’s even higher for remote fly-in First Nations communities where a box of tampons can range from $16 to $45, forcing people to choose between menstrual products and groceries.
