Competition Number: 2025-1955-DMThe Faculty Undergraduate Accreditation Lead (FUAL), under the authority of the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), and in consultation with the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, will provide leadership in the coordination and oversight for all aspects of accreditation of the UME program at NOSM University (NOSM U). The overall purpose of this position is to ensure that appropriate policies, processes, and mechanisms are in place to the accreditation of the UME program with an emphasis on accreditation elements that relate specifically to the clinical setting. The FUAL ensures that all aspects of NOSM U’s accreditation of its UME program are integrated into the ongoing program evaluation process in collaboration with the Director, Assessment and Program Evaluation. The FUAL is responsible for maintaining the standards of the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) and the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP).
Reporting
The Faculty Undergraduate Accreditation Lead reports to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, and collaborates with the Provost and Vice-President, Academic.
Responsibilities
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- In consultation with the Associate Dean, UME, and the Provost, ensures that appropriate policies and processes are in place to oversee:
- Preparation of the documentation in support of the maintenance of the CACMS accreditation standards
- Preparation and coordination of the documentation in support of the IQAP cyclical program review process
- Lead all required accreditation and follow up activities for CACMS accreditation and IQAP process including required notifications and response letters
- Provide expert advice in relation to how accreditation standards apply in the clinical setting
- Oversee the implementation of Medical School Self Study (MSS) recommendations as part of the CACMS process
- Oversee the response to any Interim Review recommendations in preparation for Full or Limited Site Visits by CACMS
- Work with student leaders to coordinate the Independent Student Analysis
- Oversee the UME program response to Independent Student Analysis recommendations
- Monitor compliance with existing and new CACMS standards throughout the accreditation cycle, with a focus on accreditation standards that relate to the clinical setting
- Work with appropriate program, unit or faculty member(s) to ensure that risks to accreditation are identified and that steps are taken to mitigate or rectify
- Work with external stakeholders/partners to ensure that risks to accreditation, in the clinical settings, are mitigated or rectified
- Identify areas of risk and vulnerability related to CACMS accreditation and any resource implications for achieving compliance
- Monitor and ensure progress on the Implementation Plan recommendations related to the IQAP
- Seek out opportunities to participate in CACMS Site Visit team visiting other schools
- Act as external reviewer for other schools when required
- Build partnerships and engage clinical/physician stakeholders to promote a shared understanding of the importance of accreditation in clinical settings
- Ensure that policies and processes relating to program evaluation and accreditation, in collaboration with the Director, Assessment and Program Evaluation, are transparent and understood by students, full-time and clinical faculty, and staff
- Act as designated representative for NOSM U in all UME national accreditation processes and assumes the role of Faculty Undergraduate Accreditation Lead (FUAL) where required
- Participate as a Member of UME Committee, UME Curriculum Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, and Student Assessment and Promotion Committee
- Work collaboratively with all Portfolio leaders and UME leaders to ensure that related tasks are completed in a timely and satisfactory fashion
- Work collaboratively with the UME Accreditation Officer to ensure that the content of the responses is clear, concise, and accurate and the format is consistent
- Meet regularly with UME leaders and content experts responsible for specific elements of accreditation to develop, draft and refine required responses, noting that this position will serve as the content expert in relation to accreditation elements that relate to clinical settings
- Assist the Associate Dean UME in strategic planning for the UME program
- Update NOSM U leadership regularly on accreditation status and IQAP process
Qualifications
Education
- M.D.
Certifications/Designations
- Must have a Faculty Appointment at NOSM U or qualify for Faculty Appointment in Clinical Sciences Division, ideally at the rank of Associate Professor or above.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in medical education is required
- Must have teaching and leadership experience in clinical education, preferably at the Theme or Course Chair level (or equivalent)
- Must have teaching and leadership experience in undergraduate medical education program
- Experience working with francophone and aboriginal faculty and communities would be an asset
- Proven experience in the coordination of various tasks under tight deadlines
- Experience in UME accreditation would be an asset
- Experience in adult education would be an asset

- An ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension). French and/or Indigenous language skills would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of educational policies and processes within a post-secondary environment

Language

Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- Two (2.0) days per week, with sufficient protected time to fulfil the requirements of this role
