Reporting
The Interim Research Coordinator, Psychiatry, reports to the Program Director of Psychiatry.
Responsibilities
Summary of Functions
The Interim Research Coordinator, Psychiatry, is responsible for all aspects of the research curriculum for the Psychiatry residency program at NOSM University (NOSM U).
Educational Responsibilities
- Develops an in depth understanding of the requirements for research as it relates to accreditation of the Psychiatry program by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the program’s goals and objectives
- Oversees the research curriculum for residents
- Supports the research projects of trainees in the residency program
- Acts as a resource for reviewing and improving the process of resident research
- Participates in planning faculty development, as it relates to research
- Directs the development, maintenance and implementation of objectives for the research component of the residency program
- Contributes to the ongoing development of relevant clinical research by faculty members
- In collaboration with the PGE Research Lead and NOSM U Research Office provides information to residents on available funding for research
- Travels as needed to promote resident research across Northern Ontario
- Organizes research days for residents to present their projects
- Provides information to residents about available research awards
- Facilitates submission of resident research for publication and/or presentation at external conferences
- Assists with development of a journal club for residents
Administrative Responsibilities
- Works with the Program Director and the Residency Program Committee (RPC) to make recommendations for overall research policy
- Collaborates with the Postgraduate Research Lead and the Assistant Dean, Research, NOSM U, to foster collaborative research across residency programs
- Member of the Residency Program Committee
- Member of the Postgraduate Research Committee
Qualifications
Education
- Either a physician licensed in Ontario, practicing in Northern Ontario with certification, or holds a PhD in a relevant field
- A current faculty appointment (or eligibility for same) with NOSM U
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of three (3) years recent regional practice experience
- Minimum of three (3) years recent experience as a preceptor
- Substantial knowledge of clinical medical research, policies and procedures as they apply to postgraduate medical education
- Significant experience in the health care and academic sectors
- Self-motivated and directed
- Superior interpersonal, communication, management and problem-solving skills
- Preference will be given to NOSM U faculty residing in Northern Ontario
Language
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
Remuneration
- As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process
Time Commitment
- Two (2.0) days per month
