The position profile below calls for the successful candidate to have a substantial knowledge of, and exposure to the issues faced by competency-based medical education, distributed medical education, to possess significant experience in the health care and academic sectors, to be self-motivated and self-directed, and to possess superior interpersonal, facilitation, communication, management and problem-solving skills.

Reporting

The Anesthesiology Foundations Lead reports to the Program Director, Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities

Summary of Functions

The Foundations Lead, Anesthesiology, is responsible for all aspects of the academic program and assessment strategy for Foundations.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Develops an-in depth understanding of the Required Training Elements and Assessment strategies for the Foundations stage
  • Creates/reviews and revises the assessment strategy for each component of Foundations
  • Plans the academic program for the Foundations Stage
  • Participates as a member of the Competence Committee including being a primary file reviewer and ensuring that all requirements of the Foundations of Discipline stage have been assessed and competencies have been achieved prior to promotion to Core of Discipline
  • Participates in clinical scheduling of residents to ensure the Foundations learners have adequate opportunity to achieve all EPAs and assessments
  • Reviews any personalized (enhanced) learning plans required in the Foundations Stage to facilitate additional experience as required to support residents to achieve the needed competencies

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Member of the Competence Committee
  • Member of the Residency Program Committee

Qualifications

Education

  • A physician licensed in Ontario, practicing in Northern Ontario, with certification
  • A current faculty appointment (or eligibility for same) with NOSM University

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of competency-based medical education and workplace assessments
  • Significant experience in the health care and academic sectors
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, management and problem-solving skills
  • Preference will be given to faculty residing in Northern Ontario

Language

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
  • French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset

Remuneration

  • As per the stipendiary faculty remuneration process

Time Commitment

  • One and one-quarter (1.25) days per month
