NOSM Begins Search for New Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is beginning the search for a new Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education. The Postgraduate Education Unit of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine is responsible for the provision, administration, and support of residency training programs in Northern Ontario. NOSM offers residency training in eight major general specialties, as well as the Family Medicine Residents of the Canadian Shield (RoCS) program – the newest Family Medicine program in Canada.

The Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education, under the guidance of the Dean, is accountable jointly with all other Associate Deans for the achievement of academic and non-academic goals of the School. Specifically, the Associate Dean is responsible for the overall conduct and supervision of Postgraduate Medical Education at NOSM. The successful candidate will provide leadership in all matters of postgraduate medical education in order to maintain the accreditation standards defined by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada, as well as strive for excellence in all aspects of postgraduate medical education.

The successful candidate will have a solid career as a practicing physician with significant experience in residency education, preferably with rural connections; experience in administration of residency programs; comprehensive understanding of accreditation requirements for postgraduate programs; experience in the accreditation process; and, experience in working with distributed learning environments. French, Ojibway or Cree communication skills considered an asset.
